 Tuesday - And I Cried
Back to Full Blog

I awoke from my warm bed yesterday

With young soldiers on my mind

Mothers tearfully saying goodbye

I blame the greed

And I cried

I drove around my home town yesterday

Flood waters rising once again

Photographs left behind

I blame global warming

And I cried

The phone rang yesterday

A classmate of my child has died

Her father beat her and she took her own life

I blame lonliness

And I cried

I heard the news today...oh boy

I saw our children sobbing & fear in their eyes

It was a bloody massacre, they said

I blame you and I

And  I cried

I tucked my son in bed last night

I rocked him to sleep & held him extra tight

Mommy will always protect you

But have I lied ?

And I cried

Lucy, there is a new blog dedicated to the families and friends of the people of Va Tech. I'd like to see us keep it on the top of the recently updated list on blogstream's home page. It's called For the families and friends of Va Tech or something similar to that. to keep it there we just need to get everyone to leave a comment. BTW, I love your poem, so sad, so true, hits so close to home too.

Your poem is so true. I have that way every since my Daughter was born. I hope that more people can really feel the true meaning of this. It is a scary world out there. And all you can do is hope for the best adn do your best for everyone who shares it with you.
Thank you lucy. You always have a point.

Oh Lucy.......you ask what all of us mothers ask ourselves now. I am so fearful for my children and the world they will grow up in. It doesn't make any sense anymore. Perhaps the beginning of the end as we know it?

Loveyou, CM

why are you blaming anyone but the sole crazy son of a bitch that did the killing? that is not right...if you blame anyone, blame the campus cops that did nothing until the second shootings happened.BC

It is something that happened, another horrific event. A terrible thing. Like 9/11. Like the Holocaust which lasted years, not a single morning. Blame? The blame game, like the insanity, is never ending, and it just is what it is. Blame "Man's inhumanity to man." Many of our fellow human beings are fractured, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically. They can't be fixed, stopped, found, discovered until they do the damage that they have been set out to do. Such is the nature of evil.

Your poem was touching & beautiful. I hope you can stop crying soon.

Don't cry, sweetie. I truly believe, there is far more goodness in the world, than evil.

We must keep our voices strong, our hearts with the Troops, our blessings with the families & Students,

And, The homefires, constantly enriched, with LOVE.

Only, Love, will temper the madness, we see...the tears, we shed.

So well said, and written, dear. Love ya, Lucy..

Lucy

Mothers - spoken well for all of us - Where and how do we keep our kids safe - it is getting harder and harder in this world to do so. That is why I firmly believe that we have today to show the love we have for each other - tomorrow is NOT guaranteed. Nice job girlfriend - in touching our hearts today.

Wonderful post, Lucy. Our support, in thought and prayer, is needed. I see others dedicating some space to that goal today, too. Same here. There is profound sadness in the air.

Something similar happened in SB about a year ago. It was easy to find things that could have been done differently; doors left closed and locked, better security at mail handling facilities, people in two different states could see that a woman was VERY disturbed and could have called for help. The debates in this kind of matter will continue and I hope attempts at solutions will follow. Child abuse and domestic violence absolutely break my heart, bringing me to tears so easily.

Blessings to All, Lulublue

What a terrible day it was yesterday for all involved..What a heartbreaking feeling you must have, having a friend who lost someone and whom you knew thru your children..We try to protect them the best we can, Lucy, and pray for their safety and hope the guidance we gave them growing up will carry them through life. How can anyone protect a loved one from dangers we have never experienced..Say your prayers for the ones who were taken and those hanging there in the balance..your poem was heartfelt and beautiful..

On a lighter note: Phil blew my socks off...(American Idol...) Melinda and Jordan were fantastic...if Sanjaya is still on after tomorrow nite...there's no hope for us! Hell in a handbasket!

Awesome post Lucy...IMAGINE gets me everytime....

Between Monday's peace rally here in the stream and what happened in my neck of America....(Virginia)...it's been a strange couple of days.

Lucy:

That is a lovely poem with heartfelt emotion. And you are right. When we tell our children we can protect them, we are not telling them the truth. We can only hope they are protected in today's violent world.

Beautiful poem....sometimes all we can do is love them. My kids are all home tonight. So many Mothers will not know that feeling again. I will not watch any of the coverage or news of this tragedy...it is too much for me. I cannot even imagine such pain and such loss. It all seems so inadequate in the face of such true dispair.

God bless our people!

Lucy,
In America, people can move around and get comfortable with their harmed minds. It is the price we pay for a free society. But it is so much better than any alternative. When our children grow, they go out into it and we have no way of protecting them against the harmed mind. We can only hope that their decisions will be blessed by our teachings.
These things happen. The Tower at Texas University, Kent State, Columbine, Padukah, Jonesville Arkansas, etc. are going to happen now and then. What scares is this new ability to do more damage with rapid fire weapons. America is a gun country.

Lucy your hand has gifted your soul to the constant sadness of these events. I only wish we could all hear you today. We all need to have the only peace that comes from goodness like yours.
Have a peaceful Lucy, your heart is right,
Joe

Oh Lucy, I share in your tears. I too had a friend whose child died yesterday.

Sometimes it seems like life is too much for me to bear. My husband and I have had to turn the TV off. The Virginia Tech killings and Iraq and all around our countrys news is too much for us old beings to dwell on. We just continue our prayers and try to make a difference.

I talked to my baby boy yesterday who turned 33, and he said Momma, things will improve. We'll see all this thru and be better for it.
He had just gotten off of the subway and was walking his 30 minutes home. And when we hung up, I cried. He still has hope, and that is what we all must have....Hope in the future, in our fellow man, in our country and in our families.

Bless you sweet Lucy for your compassion and warmth and loving ways.
Life is better because of people like you.

Lucy,

You have the heart and soul of a mother.

It's the sin, Lucy. That thing we have inside of us that if we don't humble ourselves to Christ will overtake us. Some of us hide it better than others but we all have it.

I could say I know what the answer is, but not everyone will accept that answer, so...............we live in a world of fallen and broken people.

This world will never be the Eden it was supposed to be, Lucy, that's why I look forward to heaven.

It is senseless violence Lucy. We are not to blame. The boy was sick and obviously did not get the medical attention he so desperately needed. How can anyone explain the actions of the mentally ill. My heart and prayers go to out to each and every one who has suffered in this terrible terrible tragedy. Beautiful post Lucy.

I saw you add the song, baby!

I know your heart has been heavy lately, and understandably so. Hope is never dead when there are kind people like you still around, though...feel me? I have been getting back in touch with old friends and family for the past few days. I have some of the best regular customers and I have been especially relishing their visits and smiling faces for the past few days. I want to imagine that you are smiling as you read this.

Love, T

P.S. We have a friend that we visit every time we are in NY that looks JUST like Natalie. She owns an awesome bedding studio and is also one of the kindest and giving human beings on the face of the earth....

And so do we all at the injustices we must endure. People are compassionate and warm in general and when the unthinkable happens we ask "what was missed or what could have led to this"? Do I have an answer? No and even if I did no one would implement it. I wish it was simple but it's not so I leave it in Gods hands and ask that he protect my family and friends from harm. TS
